Magnetic Oxygen

Observe how electricity can affect the magnetic pendulum.

1. Clip one alligator clip to one of the metal battery box terminals.

2. Run the wire under the magnetic pendulum.

3. Touch the second alligator clip to the other metal battery box terminal for one or two seconds.

4. Observe the movement of the magnetic pendulum.

​Now, perform the second exploration by following this procedure.

1. Attach one of the alligator clips to the metal battery terminal.

2. Hold the coil of wire near the pendulum.

3. Touch the second alligator clip to the other battery terminal for one or two seconds.

1. Screw one bolt halfway onto the hex nut.

2. Screw the second bolt into the other side of the hex nut.

3. Create a solenoid by using clear tape to secure the iron core in the center of the coiled wire.

   Testing:

4. Attach one of the alligator clips to the metal battery terminal.

5. Hold the solenoid near the pendulum.

6. Touch the second alligator clip to the other battery terminal for one or two seconds.
