Types of Rhyme

• Perfect/End Rhyme: Rhyme where the sounds of the stressed syllables match exactly,

  • cat and hat.

• Slant Rhyme: Rhyme where the sounds are similar but not identical

  • moon and bone.

• Internal Rhyme: Rhyme that occurs within a line of poetry

  • Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary'

Iambic Pentameter

• iambic = an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable

• penta = five

• Iambic pentameter has 5 of these Iams in a row for one line of poetry
