​What is a sentence?

A sentence consists of a group of words that expresses a complete thought.

The little gray kitten chased the yellow ball of yarn.

A sentence can be split into 2 parts:

The little gray kitten chased the yellow ball of yarn.

A sentence must include two items...

• Words associated with the action

• Must be a verb

Predicate

• Who or what the sentence is about

• Must be a noun or pronoun

Complete subject:

The complete subject is all of the words associated with the subject of the sentence.

The little gray kitten chased the yellow ball of yarn.

Simple subject:

The simple subject is ONLY the noun or pronoun that represents the subject.

The little gray kitten chased the yellow ball of yarn.

Complete predicate:

The complete predicate is the group of words associated with the action in the sentence. (What the subject is doing or did.)

The little gray kitten chased the yellow ball of yarn.

Simple predicate:

The simple predicate is ONLY the verb that represents the action of the subject.
