The PIE Paragraph

Point- This is usually the topic sentence that is based off the thesis statement.

Information- This is typically going to be your quote or paraphrased information from a source.

Explanation- This is your analysis. This should be all in your own words and should be the largest part of the paragraph.​

The summarized thesis statement is useful when you have more than five specific prongs. This was you are concise.​

The pronged thesis statement ​is made of of generally three or more subjects that will be directly used in the body paragraphs.

A thesis statement is a sentence (and sometimes more) that is at the end of your introduction. It guides the reader by telling them exactly what you will be writing about in your body paragraphs. ​

Now, let's put this all together! ​

If the thesis statement has three or more prongs, each reason should match up with a paragraph. ​

For example, if my thesis statement looked something like this:

"Traffic circles are more efficient than traffic lights because they are quicker for the driver, cheaper to produce, and save electricity."

Then, each body paragraph should be about as follows:

1. "Quicker for the driver"

2. "Cheaper to produce"

3. "Saves electricity"
