​We know AUTOTROPHS make GLUCOSE from photosynthesis, but how does glucose become the organic matter plants need to GROW? (Note: The bodies of living things are made of organic matter)

ATOMS in GLUCOSE can be BROKEN down and COMBINED to make the other three main ORGANIC molecules (Carbon-based molecules); Proteins, Nucleic acids, and Lipids.

​STRUCTURE OF THE FOUR MAIN ORGANIC MOLECULES:

​HOW THE THREE ORGANIC MOLECULES ARE MADE FROM  GLUCOSE:

​1. The ATOMS in sugar molecules can provide MOST of the atoms that are found in amino acids and other complex carbon-based molecules.

​2. The energy released in RESPIRATION can be used to drive chemical reactions between sugars and other substances, and the PRODUCTS of those reactions can include amino acids and other complex carbon-based MOLECULES.
