​Labeling the Globe

​The globe is divided into 4 hemispheres:

​- Northern Hemisphere

​- Southern Hemisphere

​- Western Hemisphere

​- Eastern Hemisphere

​

The northern and southern overlap with eastern and western

​Latitude

• ​Lines on a map that run parallel to the equator

• ​Used to locate positions between north & south

• They run horizontal like the rungs of a ladder.

• ​EQUATOR - imaginary line that circles the earth halfway between north and south poles​

​Longitude

• ​Lines on a map that run perpendicular to the equator

• ​Used to locate positions between east and west

• ​They run vertical on the globe

​Prime Meridian: represents 0° longitude, runs through Greenwich England - because it was home to the Royal Naval Observatory
