A noun is used to name general groups people, place, thing or idea

Some examples are:

water, apple, doctor, teacher, man, woman, cat, bedroom, month, and kid

A proper noun is used to name a specific person, place or thing.

Proper nouns MUST begin with a capital letter.

Mr. President, Wisconsin, Valentine's Day

A pronoun is a word that can take the place of a noun.

Some examples are:

I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they

Verbs are words that show action

Some examples are:

run, skip, jump, breath, follow, sleep, think

An adverb describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

Adverbs can tell: How? Where? When? How much? How often?

Some examples are:

quietly, above, now, very, sometimes

An adjective describes a noun or a pronoun.

An adjective can tell size, shape, color, taste, odor, texture, sound, number, weather

Some examples are:

huge, oval, blue, sweet, stinky, soft, loud, many, windy

A conjunction is a joining word.

We use conjunctions to join two words, phrases, or clauses together to make one long sentence.

Some examples are:

and, but, or, nor, for, yet, so
