A hurricane is a type of storm called a tropical cyclone, which forms over tropical or subtropical waters

A tsunami is a series of waves caused by earthquakes or undersea volcanic eruptions.

The tectonic plates are always slowly moving, but they get stuck at their edges due to friction. When the stress on the edge overcomes the friction, there is an earthquake that releases energy in waves that travel through the earth's crust and cause the shaking that we feel.

Tornadoes are vertical funnels of rapidly spinning air. Their winds may top 250 miles an hour and can clear a pathway a mile wide and 50 miles long.
