Los artículos definidos y indefinidos

In Spanish there are four definite articles: el, la, los, las. They all mean "the." El and La are the singular definite articles, and Los and Las, are the plural.

Articles go before the noun

All words in Spanish have a gender

Most words ending in “a” are feminine (there are exceptions)

Indefinite articles

In Spanish there are four indefinite articles: un, una, unos, unas: un/una mean "a" or "an." Unos and unas means "some."

Examples of definite and indefinite articles

• la silla (the chair)

• una silla ( a chair)

• el libro ( the book)

• un libro ( a book)

• las sillas ( the chairs) vs. unas sillas ( some chairs)

• los libros ( the books) vs. unos libros ( some chairs)

To make nouns that end in "a," or "o," plural, add an "s."

• amigo becomes amigos

• amiga becomes amigas

To make nouns that end in a consonant plural, add "es."

• papel becomes papeles

• pared becomes paredes

Nouns that end in a "z" change the "z" to "c" en the plural:

• lápiz becomes lápices

• feliz becomes felices

El verbo "ser"

"ser" means "to be"

We've already used the verb ser to describe where people are from.

We say:

You all are from

They are from​

We will use ser when we are describing nouns, where there are from, what they do, their characteristics, time, and the relationships between nouns​

Recuerda: vosotros is only used in Spain and Argentina.

Ser has 6 total conjugations but we're only going to learn 5​ since we don't focus on the "vosotros" form

Identifying the subject/subject pronoun will be the key to knowing how to conjugate the verb. This applies to ALL verbs.​

When We are conjugating verbs it is important to remember WHO we are talking to or about.
