It has been estimated that the present fossil fuel demand is expected to double between now and 2050. (r. 21-22)

Este fragmento usa DOS formas de voz pasiva:

1. It has been estimated that...

   • "Se ha estimado que..." (No dice quién lo estimó).

   • Introduce la idea general.

2. ...demand is expected to double...

   • "...se espera que la demanda se duplique..."

   • Reporta una expectativa sobre un sujeto específico (la demanda).

​Estructura 1: It + Pasiva + that...

Usamos esta estructura para introducir una idea o reporte general. Es el equivalente del "Se..." en español.

Fórmula: It + [verbo BE + participio] + that + [la idea completa]

Verbos Comunes:

• It is said that... (Se dice que...)

• It is known that... (Se sabe que...)

• It is believed that... (Se cree que...)

• It was reported that... (Se reportó que...)

• It is understood that... (Se entiende que...)

​Ejemplos => It is/was + participio

1. It is known that proper lubrication reduces friction.

   Se sabe que la lubricación adecuada reduce la fricción.

2. It was reported that the main pump failed due to overheating.

   Se reportó que la bomba principal falló por sobrecalentamiento.

3. It is believed that this new alloy is more resistant to heat.

   Se cree que esta nueva aleación es más resistente al calor.

​Ejemplos => Sujeto + passive + to

1. This engine is known to consume less fuel.

   Se sabe que este motor consume menos combustible.

2. These new components are said to be unreliable.

   Se dice que estos nuevos componentes son poco fiables.

3. The filter is expected to last 500 operating hours.

   Se espera que el filtro dure 500 horas de operación.

​Comparison

1. 1. Voz Activa (Poco común en manuales):

   Mechanics say that this tool is efficient.

   Los mecánicos dicen que esta herramienta es eficiente.

   2. Pasiva 1 ("It"):

   It is said that this tool is efficient.

   Se dice que esta herramienta es eficiente.

   3. Pasiva 2 ("Sujeto + to"): (¡La más técnica!)

   This tool is said to be efficient.

   Esta herramienta es considerada / Se dice que es eficiente.

Cuando leas ejemplos como:

• It is estimated that...

• The component is known to...

• The part is expected to...

• The system is said to be...

El texto está dando un HECHO GENERAL, una ESTIMACIÓN FORMAL o una CREENCIA ACEPTADA en la industria.
