What is Narrative Text?

Generic Structure of Narrative Text

• Orientation → introduces characters, place, and time

• Complication → problems or conflicts arise

• Resolution → solution to the problem

• (Sometimes) Re-orientation → moral value or ending

Language Features of Narrative Text

• Past tense (e.g., went, saw, played)

• Time conjunctions (e.g., then, suddenly, after that)

• Action verbs (e.g., ran, climbed, fought)

• Direct & indirect speech
