Vectors and Scalars
Vectors have direction and magnitude
Scalars only have magnitude
3
Categorize
force
Place the following into their proper category
4
Vectors are used to determine the resultant direction and magnitude of an object's motion
5
Some vector diagrams are a little more complicated. If this is the case, chances are you will need-
Pythagoras' Theorem
and or Trigonometry.
You might even need to resolve them into components

Multiple Choice
A plane is flying due north at a speed of 400km/h. A cross wind blows from the east at 300km/h to the west. What is the resultant speed and direction of the plane?
500 km/h
at N 36.87 W
600 km/h at N 30 W
450 km/h at N 45 E

Force
There are three Laws of Motion:
1st Law: an object will remain at rest or constant speed unless an external force acts upon it
2nd Law: the force an objct experiences is proportional to the acceleration (F = m x a)
3rd Law: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction
12
Categorize
experienced when accelerating
a big truck will have a greater force than a car that has the same acceleration
rockets launching
Which scenario matches which law?
13
Energy
There are many different types of energy, but the ones we will be focusing on is potential and kinetic energy
Potential energy is stored energy- it can be stored as a result of being elevated
Kinetic energy is energy of motion

When travelling in a roller coaster, the total energy stays the same, but what varies is the potential and kinetic energy. At point 3, the trolley has maximum KE, at point 5, the trolley has maximum PE.

challenging, but I am up for the challenge
interesting but the maths is too much
boring
interesting, but I just need a little help with the maths

Assessment Task 3
Designing a Play Park
In groups of no more than 4, your task will be to design a fun park that contains several rides demonstrating the different concepts we have studied thus far. Your model can be NO MORE than 50cm x 50cm x 50cm in dimensions.
20
You must include:
-at least 3 rides
-at least 3 different calculations involving force, energy and speed which are included in the information sheet attached to your model
Your design should be well presented, appealing and demonstrating effort
21
Marks will be awarded for
-meeting the criteria of at least 3 rides and 3 calculations
-meeting the size requirements and presentation of the final product
-creativity and effort
-use of time and teamwork
