The variable you change is called as Independent Variable.

As there is constant change in temperature in your experiment, therefore it is an independent variable.

The variable which you measure is called as dependent variable.

As in your investigation, you count spatulas of salt dissolved. Therefore, it becomes your dependent variable.

The variable which you keep the same, to ensure fair testing is called as Control variable.

Throughout your investigation you kept quantity of water same. So, it becomes your control variable.

The independent variable always goes along the horizontal axis.
