Jim picks 16 quarts of berries. He needs $2\ \frac{1}{4}$  quarts to make a batch of jam.  If he saves  $2\ \frac{1}{2}$  quarts of berries to eat, how many batches of jam can Jim make. 

Solve the equation to find the value of x.
