• ​Sugar Act 1764- Tax on sugar and molasses

• ​Stamp Act- Tax on any paper items in the colonies (newspaper, cards, magazines)

• Townshend Acts- Tax on glass, tea, paint, lead, etc. (heavily protested by colonists

• Boycott: Colonists refused to buy goods from Britain (peaceful)

• A group of men formed by Samuel Adams that fought for colonists rights and against taxes from the King. Sometimes violently

Sons of Liberty

• Colonists were upset because they felt like they had no say in the laws that were being passed by the King. Wanted to be represented in Parliament

• Colonists were angry that Britain sent 2,000 soldiers to enforce new taxes, like the Stamp Act (paper) and Townshend Acts (glass, paint, tea)

• ​During the protest, British soldiers opened fire and killed protestors

• ​Crispus Attucks, a free black man, was the first person to die in the massacre (and Revolution)

​Boston Tea Party (1773)

• ​A response to the Tea Act

• Men dumped tea into the Boston Harbor in protest

• ​It was a rallying event that helped unite the 13 Colonies in their anger at Britain

• ​Committees of Correspondence became popular - these groups helped towns and colonies share information about resisting British laws
