​Reflexive and Intensive Pronouns

​•They look the same, but their functions are different.

​•They are pronouns that end in –self or -selves

​REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS

• ​They function as objects in the sentence, referring to the subject.

• They are necessary in the sentence. The subject does and receives the action.

• Recall the difference between subject and object?

• EG. Aya bought herself a dress. (indirect object)

​REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS

•   I went to town and bought myself a new watch.

   No worries, Ms. Reyes, the students will buy themselves their own art supplies.

  My sister quizzed herself last night in preparation for the exam.

​INTENSIVE PRONOUNS

• They are used to emphasize a noun or a pronoun.

• They can be omitted from the sentence without changing its meaning.

EG.  The king himself declared the release of the prisoners.
