Energy Flow

All living (or once-living) things within an ecosystem

Biotic Factor

All non-living things within an ecosystem

Abiotic Factor

Ecosystem: a group of living things interacting with each other and their environment

Understanding the Biosphere:

Interdependence:

In an ecosystem, many living things interact with each other, in fact they NEED each other to survive.

Think-Pair-Share

In what way do you think living things depend on each other?

Population Limiting Factors

• All living things NEED resources

  -Food

  -Water

  -Shelter/Space

• Carrying Capacity- # of organisms an environment can hold due to these limiting factors.

• Natural Hazards will add to limiting factors.

Competition:

Living organisms compete or fight for resources.

• Compete for nutrients, sunlight, water

• Root space

Producers

Consumers

• Compete for space/shelter

• Compete for nutrients (food/water)

• Compete for mates
