Plot

​The plot is the sequence of events/ the storyline that is developed by the author.

The plot:

• ​may be in chronological order (ie. linear)

• ​may contain flashbacks( past incidents)

• ​usually comprises various events or sub-plots

• ​usually resolves in the climax or conclusion of the the novel.

​Character

When you study each character, attention needs to be paid to the following:

• ​physical appearance(age, dress, social class/mannerisms/speech, accent ,

• ​personalities (intelligence, attitiude,introverted/extroverted character

• ​actions (what they do in the plot)

​Setting

This is where the story is set ie. the background.

​This also shows us where the story takes place.

​Conflict

This can involve disagreement , differences or confrontation between characters.​

​Climax

This is the tension in the novel where it builds up to a peak.​

​denouement

This follows the climax and completes the story.

It unravels the plot.​

​Theme

Main ideas of literature which conveys the message of the author or writer.​
