Adaptation: A physical or behavioral characteristic that helps an animal or plant survive in its environment.

An adaptation is a characteristic or trait that an animal or plant has so they can survive in their environment.

Let's look at some examples of adaptations on the next slide!

Vines have adapted or changed to their environment by being able to travel up trees to reach the sunlight at the top.

​Plants in the Rainforest

​Plants life in the rainforest typically grow faster. because of plenty rainfall and sunlight. There is a large amount of plant life in the rainforest.

​Because there is a lot of plant life, trees have adapted by growing vines. Vines help trees reach the top and receive sunlight.

​Due to rain and nutrients, trees have large roots and thick trunks. It can also help animals find shelter here!

Plants in the tundra or cold ecosystems have learned to only grow a few inches every year. This way, they can stay close to the ground and keep away from cold temperatures.
