Refresher

Constraints are limitations!

For example if talking about time or population, you would not have negative values.

A solution is viable if it makes sense in the context. Again, no negative time or population, and you likely won't catch a million fish.

Radicals are the symbol we use for square roots, cube roots, etc.

You can do operations with radicals, with some restrictions.

In order to multiply or divide, they must have the same index! Then you multiply/divide the radicands inside.

In order to add or subtract, they must have the same index AND radicand. Then you simply add/subtract the coefficients.

You also can and may have to SIMPLIFY radicals (see next slide)

Simplifying Radicals

To simplify radicals you need to identify the greatest perfect square factor of your radicand.

Remember your perfect squares are 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100, 121, 144, 169, 196, 225, etc.,

The square root of the perfect square moves to the front as the coefficient. If there was already a coefficient, multiply them!
