​The year is 1845.

Dear Friend,
I am reaching out as a call to action! As you know, Abraham Lincoln is publicly speaking out against the acts of slavery. He wants to ban it in all new states, but the southerners are hesitant.

Eleven southern states have seceded from our Union, and people are beginning to worry. Will this country come to a compromise, or will it crumble? We need your help. The Constitutional Convention is calling a meeting at Liberty Hall in two weeks. Lincoln and the delegates have to make some tough decision.

I, along with Garrison and Douglass will be there to publicly Denounce slavery and all who support it! It won't be easy to convince the delegates, but we'll try.  Assemble your team to spread the word about the evils of slavery. The time is now.

Your job is to listen and discuss some of the major issues going on in your country. Listen to the concerns of the abolitionists.

Ask questions, be critical and be aware of your surroundings.

Name and brand: You and your group must come up with a name for your antislavery newsletter. Make it catchy and clever.

Presentation RULES

1. Introduce yourself to the delegates: "Good afternoon delegates. My name is...."

2. The leader of the group must present the group's newsletter name: "Our newspaper is known as...."

3. Everyone must say ONE thing about the meaning behind the name of the newspaper.

Show what you know: You and your group must answer questions related to slavery and the civil war! Think of all that we learned! Don't forget it.
