Verbs that take the Dative

In Stage 9, you met the dative case:

mercator Metellae togam tradidit.
The merchant handed over the toga to Metella.

But some verbs take the dative case instead of the accusative as a direct object.

Quintus Holconio favet.
Quintus supports Holconius.

​nos pistori credimus.
We trust the baker.

Dative with the verb placet.

Notice the following:

placetne tibi? mihi placet.
Is it pleasing to you? It is pleasing to me.

There are more natural ways of translating these examples, such as:

Does it please you? Yes, it pleases me.
Do you like it? Yes, I like it.
