Today we will read Chapter 9.

Why is Noah worried about the boat?
What do Noah, Emma, and Alex find when they reach the boat?

Disaster Strikes

Structure refers to how the events flow to create an engaging, interesting story that readers can understand.
The text Disaster Strikes is a fiction story. When you think about the text structure of a fiction story, think about the phrase “Give me five!” There are five parts or elements of a fiction story.
They are:
character;
setting;
problem;
solution; and
mood.
Each of these elements plays a role in how the story is told.

Chapters help organize the events and ideas in a story, introduces new information or a new event, help signal the passage of time, and often end with an event that builds excitement for the next chapter.

Just then, Noah hears something. Alex must have outrun the edge of the mudslide.
Noah and Alex wonder if the mudslide got the boat.
Emma starts to cry when she thinks that the mudslide has damaged the boat. She is worried that her father is on the boat.
The kids find the boat and go aboard. They discover that the boat is empty and that their fathers are nowhere to be found.
The kids wait on the boat all afternoon. They find some food and eat while they wait.
