Why do we use them?
We use relative pronouns (who, which, where) in defining relative clauses to explain what a person, place or thing is or does
We use who for people. That's the woman who has a black cat.
We use which for things. This is the jumper which my mum made.
We use where for places. There is the park where I go to relax.
3
Special rules....
The verb after where needs an subject
e.g. A library is a place where you can rent books.
We can also use which to talk about a place
e.g. A library is a place which rents books.
4
Special rules....
That can be used instead of who or which
e.g. That's the man who/that walks his dog every morning.
e.g. This is the chair which/that I bought online.
