Carbon Cycle Review

Where is Carbon Found?

Carbon is an element that can be found in many places, some including:

1.

In molecules.

2.

In soil.

3.

In fossil fuels.

4.

In organisms.

Carbon in Molecules

Carbon is found in the molecules of any living organism (plants and animals).

Carbon in Soil

Carbon is also found in soil
humus (because it is made up of
dead organisms).

Carbon in Fossil Fuels

When we burn fossil fuels (they once were living organisms), carbon
dioxide is released into the air.

Carbon in Organisms

When organisms die, they are broke down (decomposed) by fungi, bacteria, and
other decomposers. During this decay process, carbon dioxide is released into the
air.

Plants and Carbon

●

Plants use Carbon
Dioxide to perform
photosynthesis

●

Plants give off Oxygen.
(waste gas)

Animals and Carbon

●Animals use Oxygen to live.

●Animals give off Carbon
Dioxide. (waste gas)

Too Much Carbon?

We are cutting down too many
trees and plowing up fields.

We are also burning too many
fossil fuels.

The amount of Carbon Dioxide
in the atmosphere is increasing.

This is causing our planet to
warm up.

This process is called Global
Warming and The Greenhouse
Effect.
