Objective I will learn about the geosphere of Earth.
DOL Given 5 questions, I will describe characteristics
of the geosphere and analyze how it interacts with
the other spheres on Earth with 100% accuracy.

NOTECARDS
What is the
geosphere
made of?
4
REMEMBER: Geosphere
● All of the solid features on Earth, including all
rocks, mountains, land, etc.
● Geo = EARTH
5
Open Ended
What features of Earth are included in the Geosphere? How do these features form?
6
Geosphere
7
Geosphere
● The crust of the Earth is
broken into pieces called
tectonic plates.
● The tectonic plates move
around on the mantle.
The Earth's surface is made up of large sections called tectonic plates. These plates are like giant puzzle pieces that fit together to cover the entire planet. They float on a layer of molten rock called the mantle, which is beneath the Earth's crust. The movement of tectonic plates is caused by heat from the Earth's core. This heat creates convection currents in the mantle, causing the plates to move.

Multiple Choice
Which of the following describes the movement of magma within the mantel of Earth's layers?
Boiling
Convection
Evaporation
Condensation
10
Multiple Choice
What is the main force that drives the movement of tectonic plates?
Gravity
Ocean currents
Heat from Earth's core
Wind patterns
11
Geosphere
● The crust can be grouped into continental crust
and oceanic crust.
● It is also known as the lithosphere.
● Litho = ROCK
12
Geosphere
● Below the lithosphere is the asthenosphere.
● The asthenosphere is the mushy upper layer of
the mantle.
13
How do the
geosphere
and
hydrosphere
interact?
Fill in the
table on your
notes!
14
MRS
● How do the geosphere and biosphere interact?
Think back to what we have learned about the
biosphere and ecosystems!
15
How do you see evidence of
the interaction of the
atmosphere and the
geosphere in this image?
Use the image as evidence
for your SCR. Then, share
with a partner and write 3
interactions in the table on
your notes.
