• Magma travels up the vent & erupts out of the crater

• Earth's crust is made of many big pieces that fit together called tectonic plates

• Faults are where the plates fit together

• Faults are are different sizes

• The San Andreas fault runs most of the length of California

• Plates shift and create pressure, which causes the ground to move
