Simple Sentences

Simple sentences show one complete idea:

Marvin and I went fishing.

A predicate tells what the subject DOES or IS.

A subject tells WHO or WHAT the sentence is about.

2. The old house on the corner has a big garden in the backyard.

Compound Sentences

combines two simple sentences using a comma and a conjunction.

Marvin and I went fishing, and we caught two big fish for dinner.

Coordinating Conjunctions

• I want to play outside.

• It's raining.
  
  Using a coordinating conjunction, we can join them: "I want to play outside, but it's raining."

A coordinating conjunction is like a bridge connecting two important parts of a sentence. The most common coordinating conjunctions are FANBOYS: For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, and So.
