1.5.1 Drafting Argumentative Essay

• Throughout this unit, you have been working on an outline for your argumentative writing project.

• You have been gathering and adding evidence to support your claim to answer the unit inquiry question: Are we better together?

• Now, you are ready to write! As you draft your argument, you turn your outline into a cohesive piece of writing, adding muscle and shape to your ideas.

• Today, you will write and begin the revision of your final project.

• You should have all parts of your outline complete by this point. This means you now need to spend time writing out your ideas in paragraph form.

How do I turn my outline into a full draft?

• After your finish your draft, spend some time reading over your paper

• The argumentative writing project will be graded on focus, content, organization, and conventions

• Use the self-check checklist on page 7 of your edio lesson to check your work

Revising and grading

• As you learned new skills, you have been adding to, expanding on, and revising ideas and sections of your outline.

• The next step is to use your outline to guide you as you write your paper.

• You should be using the rest of class to work on the draft of your Argumentative Essay

• There is an MLA formatted work document on page 6 of your edio lesson

• After you finish your draft, the rest of class is choice time. You can be working on:
