Properties of Parallel Lines

Goal:

Students are going to be able to find the measures of angles formed by parallel lines and a transversal.

A line that passes through two lines in the same plane at two distinct points.

​Transversal

Lines of equal slope, the do not intersect.

​Parallel Lines

Concepts:

Angles that lie along the outside of the parallel lines.

Exterior Angles

Angles that lie between the parallel lines.

​Interior Angles

Concepts:

Same side congruent angles.

Corresponding Angles

Angles, that share a central point, and that are directly across from one another.

​Vertical Angles

Concepts:

Congruent angles, that lie outside of the parallel lines but on opposite sides of the transversal.

Alternate Exterior Angles

Congruent angles, that lie between the parallel lines but on opposite sides of the transversal.

​Alternate Interior Angles

Concepts:

Supplementary angles that lie between the parallel lines, on the same side of the transversal.

Same Side EXterior

Supplementary angles that lie between the parallel lines, on the same side of the transversal.
