Blending

Blending is when a word is formed by mixing two other words together (Word Formation Processes | LanGeek, 2020).

Example:
Breakfast + lunch = Brunch

Compounding

When two separate words are combined together to form a single new word, compounding happens (Word Formation Processes | LanGeek, 2020).

Example:
ice (noun) + cream (noun) = ice cream (noun)

Acronym

A word formation process in which the first letters (sometimes the first few letters) of the words in a phrase are extracted and put together to form a word, pronounced as a word by the usual rules of English spelling, with the same meaning as the original phrase (Words in English: Types of Word Formation, 2024).

Example:
Radio Detection and Ranging = RADAR

Borrowing

Borrowing or loan word refers to the process where a foreign word is used in the language without being translated.

Example:
chauffer (French) -> chauffer (English)

Coinage

Coinage is a type of word formation process that involves creation and general use of new words through sources like commercial products, technology, music, cinema, etc (Coinage and Eponyms in the English Language | LanGeek, 2020).

Example:
Xerox is brand name for a copying machine for reproducing printed.
Overtime, it has evolved its meaning to "printing without the use of liquid chemicals."
