substances.

●Pure, not bonded with other

●Examples:

○Carbon (C )

○Oxygen (O)

○Helium (He)

Compounds

●More than one element bonded together

●Has a chemical formula

●Examples:

○Water (H20)

○Fructose/Sugar (C6H12O6)

○Baking Soda (NaHCO3)

• Cannot be separated by physical means

Mixtures

●A substance made by combining 2 or more substances together

●Not chemically combined

●No chemical reaction occurs

●Examples:

○Lemonade

○Chocolate Milk

○Pizza

●Heterogeneous vs. Homogeneous

○Heterogeneous - can see the different parts of the mixture (Ex: Pepperoni Pizza)

○Homogeneous - cannot see the different parts of the mixture (Ex: Chocolate milk)

• Can be separated by physical means
