QUANTITATIVE

Quantitative data refers to information that can be expressed numerically, such as a person's height, the number of students in a class, or the number of cars in a parking lot. Bar graphs, histograms, line graphs, scatter plots, box plots, and stem-and-leaf plots are great for presenting quantitative data.

QUALITATIVE

Unlike quantitative data, qualitative data refers to information that can not be expressed numerically, such as a person's gender or eye color. It is descriptive and non-numeric. Bar graphs, frequency tables, and pie charts are commonly used to present qualitative data.

​Bar graphs are used to compare different categories or groups.
Example: Movie fanatics' Favorite types of movies.

BAR GRAPHS.

​Used to display the distribution of a single continuous variable.
Example: The distribution of a school's grades.

​HISTOGRAMS.

While bar graphs and histograms may appear the same, they have some key differences.
-A bar graph is used for comparison while a histogram is used for distribution.
How a bar graph would be used:
-Comparing the sales figures of different products.
How a histogram would be used:
-Showing the distribution of ages in a population.

Used to visualize how information changes over a certain period.

​Example: Tracking the amount of push-ups done during the week.

​LINE GRAPHS.

​Used to display the distribution of a data set based on a five-number summary. (Minimum, first quartile, median, third quartile, maximum.) Example: Comparing the distribution of salaries in different departments of a company

BOX PLOTS.

Used to show proportions and percentages.
Example: Sales chart...

PIE CHARTS.

​Used to display quantitive data while maintaining the original data points.
Example: Visualizing a class' distribution of test scores.

STEM-AND-lEAF

​Lists the frequency of different categories.
Example: A table showing the number of interviewees mentioning specific themes.
