Descriptive word
Tent is what?
Tent is stuffy.
You would never write the sentence tent is the stuffy, which gives you a clue that stuffy can only be an adjective.
Adjective
Person, place, or thing
Joe is what?
Joe is captain.
There is an understood article. The sentence might also be written:
Joe is the captain.
Noun

For example:
I like autumn.
I like autumn weather.
In the first example, autumn is the DO.
In the second, autumn is the Adj (weather is the DO).
