Transition Words

What are transition words?

They act as a BRIDGE to help the reader cross from one idea to another
Different ideas relate in different ways. There are different transition words to use depending on the relationship.

Adding Information

Examples: In addition, also, furthermore

Examples: for example, such as, in fact

Contradict/Contrast

Examples: however, on the contrary, otherwise

Time/Sequence

Examples: last, first, before

Conclusions

Examples: finally, in summary, therefore

Examples: as a result, consequently
