Ending Blends Word Work
Day One

Supplies: pencil, paper, glue, markers/crayons, and chart paper.
Mode: individual, partner or group.

A blend is two consonants that come together and they both keep their sounds.
For example, think about the sl in the word slide. You can clearly hear the sound of the s and the sound of the l in the word slide.

There are several groups of blends.
Some are only found at the beginning of words, some are found only at the end of words, and some can be found in either place.

What are blends?

Create an anchor chart showing how you sorted the words. Split your words cards in half. You are to sort the words in at least 2 different ways. You must have at least 2 categories for each sort. Choose from the list below:

1. similar spelling patterns/word families (cvc, cvce, cvcc, ccvcc)
2. grammar categories (noun, verb, adjective, adverb, conjunction)
3. number of syllables
4. rhyme scheme
5. similar meanings/groupings (colors, months, places, animals, tools)

If you have time remaining you can use it for free time activities. Make sure your area is cleaned up and supplies are put back. Turn in your anchor chart to the teacher.
