Manifest Destiny: U.S should expand westward from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific ocean

Pioneer: Someone who is first to enter a region

Migration: Moving from one place to another

Annex: to add land, or territory, into a country

REasons to move west

• New markets: Americans can sell goods in new places

• More land: Farmland to grow agricultural goods

• Discovery of gold in California: Americans wanted to become rich finding gold and other resources

Barriers to expansion

• Native Americans: inhabited land west and attacked

• Land owned by other countries: Mexico owned land that the U.S wanted

• Harsh journey: No paved roads, horrible weather, attacks from native Americans.
