The atmosphere can be separated into several layers.

The Layers

​The first layer is the Troposphere.

• as you increase in altitude, temp decreases

• weather occurs here

​The second layer is the Stratosphere.

• Temp remains stable for 20 km, then rises with altitude

• Highest skydive happened here

• Contains the ozone

​The third layer is the Mesosphere.

• as you increase in altitude, you decrease in temperature.

• Meteors are seen here.

Ions from solar wind crash into atoms of oxygen and nitrogen in the ionosphere. This creates the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).

The ionosphere is also found here.

• Still contains a little bit of ionosphere.

• Also contains the magnetosphere.

​The next layer is the Thermosphere

​This is the very outermost edge of our atmosphere. It is the boundary between us and the rest of space.
