What is the formula to find the area of a rectangle?

What is the formula to find the length of a rectangle if you have the area and the width?

Multiple Choice

How can we rewrite the following division sentence as a multiplication sentence?

54 ÷ 3 = ?

? x 3 = 54

? ÷ 3 = 54

54 x 3 = ?

3 x ? = 54

Now that our division sentence is written as a multiplication sentence, it is a little easier to solve.

Let's decompose the number 54 into smaller parts!

The area of this figure is 52 with a width of 3. What do you think will be our first step?

First we will divide 50 divided by 3. Which equals???

Now we have part of the length of the rectangle. What will we do with the other part?

We will subtract the area we have used and now have 20 and 2 remaining. What will I do with the 20 and 2?

Take the 20 and bring it up and add it to the 2. Now we know how much area we have left and can figure out the length of the remaining part of the rectangle. What will do next?

Divide!!!
Twenty two divided by 3 is?

Then we multiply 7 times 3 which equals??? What will we do next?

Subtract!!! 22 - 21 = 1
We are now almost done solving our equation!

Our quotient for 52 divided by 3 is 17 with a remainder of 1.

Wow that is a lot of steps to remember! What is the first step? Next? Then? and finally?

First we will divide, then multiply, subtract, and then take back up.

Take back up and add! 30 + 3 = Are we done solving this equation?

Divide! 33 divided by 6 =
Where do we place that quotient?

On the length of the rectangle! What is our next step?

Multiply! 5 x 6 =
Then? Where do we put that product? What is our next step?

Subtract! What numbers do we subtract? What is our next step?

Almost done! How can we tell we are done dividing?

Our remainder is smaller than our divisor! Now put it together to find the quotient!
