Tools: for cutting plasterboard

Utility knife, jab saw, 2ft level, tape measure, pencil and multi detector.

Tools for plastering:
bucket, bucket trowel, Plastering trowel, plastering hawk, utility knife.

Materials: Plasterboard patch, 2 x 2 x 1 timber, drywall screws scrim tap, multi finish plaster, water.

How to cut plasterboard.

Cutting Plasterboard step by step

• Measure and mark the plasterboard

• Use a utility knife and the level to score the plasterboard along the marked lines

• Break the scored lines and cut the back of the paper to finish the cut.

Removing Damaged Plasterboard

• Assess the damage and determine the extent of repair needed

• using a digital detector or cutting a small inspection hole to check for any pipes or cables that could be behind.

• Use a utility knife to cut a square around the damaged area

• Remove the damaged plasterboard by prying it off

• Clean the area and prepare it for new plasterboard installation

• fit 2 x pieces of 2x1 timber in behind the cut out area

• Install the new plasterboard and secure it in place using plasterboard fixings

• Apply a scrim tape and then coat with 2 to 3mm of multi finish

• allow plenty of drying time once plaster has change colour and turned light with no wet patches it can be undercoated and then painted.
