What is DNA?
★It is the stuff that makes you
yourself! It is your instructions.
★It is written in a code that needs
to be read and interpreted.
★It has the structure of a
double helix.
★The word DNA stands for
DeoxyriboNucleic Acid.

What is in DNA?
★
It is made of nucleotides
which contain:
○A chemical compound
called a phosphate
group
○a nitrogenous base,
either:
■Adenine (A)
■Thymine (T)
■Guanine (G)
■Cytosine (C)
○a 5 carbon sugar
(called deoxyribose).

Review:
CHO- Carbohydrate
CHO- Lipids
CHON- Proteins
CHONP- Nucleic Acids

Multiple Choice
What biomolecule are nucleotides?
Carbohydrate
Lipid
Protein
Nucleic Acids

Replace this with your body text.
Duplicate this text as many times as you would like.
All provided templates can be reused multiple times.

What makes up DNA’s
special code?
★The nucleotides (adenine,
thymine, guanine, and cytosine)
make up the code. It is their
order/sequence that is important.
★They combine together to write
their code in a specific way.
○A matches with T;
○C matches with G
○To remember think: Car
goes in Garage and Apple
goes with Tree

How is DNA made?
★ DNA is made during the
S phase of the cell cycle.
○
As review: the cell
cycle contains 4
phases:
G1, S, G2, M
★ It is made in a process
called DNA replication
★
During DNA
Replication:
a. The DNA is unwound
by a special enzyme
b. Another enzyme then
creates a
template/primer to
help build a new DNA
strand
c. Next, a third enzyme
then creates the DNA
to match that
template/primer
d. Finally, a fourth
enzyme then glues the
whole thing back
together.
