Newton’s 1st Law of Motion

★ Inertia

○ An object at rest, or an object in motion, will not

change its motion until an outside force acts upon it.

★ It takes more force to start an object moving (or to stop

an object) than it takes to keep it moving.

★ Friction is the force that opposes motion

Is Friction bad?

● What would life be like with no friction?

○ No wasted energy
○ Engines would not overheat
○ Walking / driving on ice

Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion

❖ For every action there is an equal and opposite

reaction.
➢ To move forward, you need to push backwards.
