Ordinal numbers - Explained

• Ordinal numbers follow naturally from cardinal numbers. They usually designate placement or position.

• There is no need to go into depth with ordinal numbers. We can just stick to 1-31.

• You are not going to be expected to write ordinal numbers in written form higher than 10.

Ordinal numbers - Explained

• Generally, for ordinal numbers, you just add a "th" at the end.

An example for this would be 5^th = fifth or 10^th = tenth.

• One, two and three are exceptions to this.

1^st = First; 2^nd = Second and 3^rd = third.

• The consequence of this is that any number containing 1, 2 or 3 end with the letter "st"; "nd" or "rd".

An example would be 21st = twenty-first or 23rd = twenty-third. Extremely useful for dates!
