Today we're going to talk about 5 relative pronouns

• who - refers to the person that is the SUBJECT in the sentence (who the whole sentence is about)

• whom - refers to a person in the sentence that IS NOT the subject

• whose - possesive form of who, shows ownership of something

• that - use with essential clauses in a sentence, meaning it has to be there to be understood, and does not use commas

• which - used with non-essential clauses in sentences that just give us extra information, but are not important to the core meaning of the sentence, and DO use commas

Who, Whom, Whose

• all of these talk about PEOPLE

• Jane, who is older than me, plays the guitar.

• Ty, whom Mark yelled at, left the party.

• Kyle, whose bike is broken, walked to school.

That, Which, and sometimes Whose

• These talk about THINGS.

• The lamp that is on the table is broken.

• Cats, which are carnivores, love to hunt.

• Whose animals are those?
