Photosynthesis lesson

Definition of Photosynthesis

the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water. Photosynthesis in plants generally involves the green pigment chlorophyll and generates oxygen as a byproduct.

Glucose

Glucose is used by plants for energy and to make other substances like cellulose and starch.

1 Product of Photosynthesis

Oxygen

Oxygen generates ATP and NADPH—the energy source and reducing power for plant metabolism.

Photosynthesis Equation

Where does photosynthesis occur

photosynthesis occurs in a specialized intracellular organelle—the chloroplast. Chloroplasts perform photosynthesis during the daylight hours.

How does the Chloroplast work in photosynthesis?

Chloroplasts are plant cell organelles that convert light energy into relatively stable chemical energy via the photosynthetic process.

Why does Photosynthesis happen?

the process of photosynthesis to transform water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide into oxygen, and simple sugars that the plant uses as fuel.

How does photosynthesis relate to humans?

Humans depend on photosynthesis to make the food they consume, as a source of energy to produce heat, light, and electricity, on a daily basis.
