Contact Forces

Contact forces are forces that require direct physical contact between two objects.

Examples of contact forces includes:

friction, tension, and air resistance

Non-Contact

Non-contact forces are forces that act on an object without the need for physical contact.

Examples of non-contact forces includes:

gravity, magnetism, and electric forces.

Magnetic Force

When a magnet is brought near an object it will be attracted(pulled) or repelled (pushed)

Gravity

An object is pulled towards another object with a larger mass.

​Air Resistance

As an object travels through the air the air pushes on it.

Friction

As an object moves across a surface a force pushed in the opposite direction that the  object is moving.

​Electrical (Electrostatic)

Two charged objects will attract(pull) or repel (push) when brought near each other.

Applied

An object is pushed or pulled by another object or person.

​Normal

An object is pushed on by a stable (not moving) object.
