Converting Decimals to Fractions

  • When reading a decimal, make sure to use it's official mathematical name!

  • Example: 0.1 = "One Tenth, 0.23 = "Twenty Three Hundredths"

  • Write what you say as a fraction

  • Don't forget to simplify if possible!

8

Converting Fractions to Decimals

  • When converting fractions to decimals, we always divide the numerator by the denominator

  • The numerator goes inside the house

  • The denominator goes outside the house

Converting Percents to Decimals

  • We know that every percent can be written as a fraction over 100

  • We know that every fraction is actually a division problem

  • Using this knowledge, we know that we can convert percents to decimals by moving the decimal two places to the left

13

Converting Decimals to Percents

  • To convert a decimal to a percent, we just do the opposite of what we did when we converted percents into decimals

  • To do this is to move the decimal point two spaces to the right!

Converting Fractions to Percents

  • When converting fractions to percents, we have three levels of problems.

  • Level 1: If the denominator is already 100, simply put a % after the numerator

  • Level 2: Sometimes the denominator can be multiplied or divided to become 100. Whatever you do to the top must be done to the bottom.

  • Level 3: When the denominator cannot be multiplied or divided to become 100, we must divide up. Horse and rider.
