Quadrants

The x-axis and y-axis create 4 sections called quadrants.

How to graph ordered pairs.

(x, y) represents an ordered pair.

The x-value tells you whether you should move left or right.
If the x-value is positive, you move to the right.
If the x-value is negative, you move to the left.

The y-value tells you whether you should move up or down.
If the y-value is positive, you move up
If the y-value is negative, you move down

Reflecting Points
Creates a mirror image.

​(2, 3) reflected over the x-axis becomes (2, -3)

The x-value stayed the same, and the y-value became the opposite.

​(2, 3) reflected over the y-axis becomes (-2, 3). The y-value stays the same, and the x-value becomes the opposite.
