Matter - substance that takes up space and has volume
Characteristics of matter include:
color, density, volume, mass, boiling point, and melting point

Four States of Matter

a stable shape that can be changed by an outside force

Solid

nearly incompressible fluid that will take the shape of its container, but will maintain its volume and density

Liquid

less or no electric charge, typically at low pressures as in the upper atmosphere, in fluorescent lamps, or very high temperatures as in stars and nuclear reactors

Plasma

a compressible fluid that will expand of compress into the shape of the coantainer

Gas

Atoms are the smallest component of normal matter. They consist of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Except for hydrogen which only contains protons and electrons
