A genre of fiction about the consequence of imagined
inventions in science or technology. These stories take place in
the future.

Fantasy

Fantasy is a genre that includes magical elements. Characters might have magical
abilities. Stories take place in imaginary worlds that are different from the world we
live in.

Horror

Horror is a scary story genre. Horror
stories are meant to shock and scare
the audience as they watch.

One popular way to scare people is
the “jump scare” like when a monster
is behind a door and jumps out. This
makes the audience jump in their
seat.

Comedy

Comedies are funny stories. Comedies are made to make people laugh and have
fun.

Anime

Anime is a style of animation. It is a style that started in Japan. It draws on a style
that began in the 1960s with Osamu Tezuka. Because Anime is a style of drawing
it can overlap with other genres. So you can have anime that is also a comedy or
fantasy anime.

Osamu Tezuka

Osamu Tezuka started making comics that
looked different from what anyone had ever
made before. Tezuka had a unique way of
drawing that became very popular. Tezuka is
considered the “Father of Manga”. Tezuka’s
style of drawing was so popular that many
people started copying his style and making
their own manga.

Manga

Manga is very similar to a comic. It is a way to tell stories using drawings and
writing. It began in the 19th century. Manga looks very different today than how it
started.
